About Open Stage

A few of us have formed Open Stage ("Open Stage (Singapore), The"), a not- for-profit Registered Theatre Society, during the last quarter of 2007.

The founding members are busy residents of Singapore working in diverse professions.

They all share a common passion, i.e. theatre, and have a burning desire to add to & enliven Singapore's ever developing cultural & arts scene.

The primary objective of Open Stage is to stage plays in English in order to promote high quality theatre in Singapore as well as to encourage & showcase local talent.

Vision

It’s vision is to stimulate, celebrate and enhance understanding of others and ourselves through the shared experience of live theatre. It aims to produce new plays and classics marked by innovative interpretations, reflecting our community as well as the world in which we live.

It’s goal is to be a nationally and internationally recognized destination theatre group offering high quality productions and education year round for all audiences.

Mission and Objectives:

• To produce a broad range of theatrical and musical presentations of the highest possible quality, in English and other languages.
  
  
• To actively foster relationships and collaborations with international artists and companies, and where feasible, carry out joint productions with foreign theatre companies in Singapore and abroad.
  
  
• To join with other community theatres for mutual assistance, benefit and enrichment.
  
  
• To produce fun and exciting children’s theatre program.
  
  
• To train people interested in theatre by providing hands-on learning experience in all aspects of theatre, i.e. acting, production and management.
  
  
• To showcase local talent.
  
  
• To celebrate the achievement of our volunteers, staff and members.
  
  
• To provide value to our many valuable supporters.
  

Our first play "The Verdict" was based on the famous Broadway classic "12 Angry Men" by Reginald Rose. It was staged at the Singapore Repertory Theatre - DBS Arts Centre on the 18th and 19th of May 2008.
